UNESCO Youth Hackathon 2026: Global Opportunity for Young Innovators in Media, AI & Digital Transformation

The UNESCO Youth Hackathon 2026 is a global initiative designed to empower young innovators to solve real-world challenges through Media and Information Literacy (MIL), artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.

This program is more than just a hackathon—it is a learning journey, mentorship platform, and international showcase opportunity for youth who want to create positive impact in their communities and beyond.

 Theme of 2026

“Play Your Part: Youth Designing the Future of Media and Information Literacy”

This year’s theme encourages young people to rethink how information is created, shared, and understood in the digital age.

 Step-by-Step Journey

Step 1: Register Your Interest

Join the UNESCO Youth Hackathon 2026 by completing the registration form and accessing the free mentoring program.

Step 2: Learn from Global Experts (1–2 July 2026)

Registered participants will join a 2-day mentoring program led by international experts in:

  • Media and Information Literacy (MIL)
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Digital innovation
  • Project development and design thinking

 Note: Live sessions are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Recordings will be available for all participants.

Step 3: Develop and Submit Your Project

Teams will design and submit innovative solutions after completing the mentoring sessions. Full submission guidelines will be shared with participants.

Step 4: International Evaluation

Projects will be reviewed by a global panel of experts based on:

  • Innovation
  • Feasibility
  • Relevance
  • Social impact

Step 5: Global Showcase in Greece 🇬🇷

Winning teams will be invited to:

Voices – European Festival of Journalism and Media Freedom
 Thessaloniki, Greece
 26–28 November 2026

Participants will showcase their projects and connect with global leaders in media and innovation.

Certification & Recognition

All participants who submit relevant projects will receive an official certificate from UNESCO.

 Team Requirements

  • Teams must include 2 to 6 members
  • Individual registration is allowed (team can be completed later)
  • Accurate information is required for communication and selection
